4 tips to make your Thank You cards NOT seem like a boring template!
In the spirit of the gratitude of this Thanksgiving season, here are 4 tips for your wedding thank you cards!
We know that during the hustle and bustle of wedding planning (and in the whirlwind of busyness after the wedding!) adding one more thing to your to-do list might seem like a burden, especially if you’re anticipating writing a hundred thank you cards by hand to all your guests. That’s why we’re here to show you how to make finding, writing, and distributing your thank you cards super easy and even fun!
TIP #1 Make a list. Everyone who gave you a gift or performed a special service in your wedding should receive a thank you card, so make sure to write a list of all the people who will be receiving a card. This will help you keep track of the number of people you’ll need to order cards for. Once you know the exact number, ordering a few extra cards can’t hurt, either! We recommend writing a brief reminder of what service and/or gift your guests are being thanked for when you make this list so the thank-you note writing process will be more streamlined when you sit down to write.
TIP #2: The internet is your best friend! Have fun browsing online until you find the perfect card! You could go through a vendor like Clover & Lamb Design, who will help you create beautiful custom cards. You could also find a site that will help you create cards with photos from your wedding as a keepsake for your guests!
TIP #3: Don’t overthink it! A lot of joy can come from finding your perfect card, and when you find something you love, go with it. Chances are you probably won’t even be thinking about the details of the card a year after you’ve sent them out (or even a month!), so don’t stress the small things and just go with what you love most.
TIP #4: Use a template, then spice it up! When it comes to writing the message within your card, you might start to feel overwhelmed. It can seem like an impossible task to write over 100 personalized thank you notes to all your guests. However, we have a quick and easy template for you to consider when you sit down to write your cards!
First, you might consider having a basic thank you pre-printed at the beginning of your card. You can have this printed with your cards when you order them online. You might say something like “Thank you for sharing our special day with us!” or another simple message along those lines. Keeping your pre-printed message short and sweet will leave space in your card for your handwritten note.
When it comes to handwriting your note, we recommend following a simple guideline to make sure your message is easy to write and heartfelt to its recipient. Mentioning specifically what you’re thanking your guest for and what their gift or special service meant to you will help keep your note from sounding like a template, even if you’re using a template to structure your note! You can keep your thank you as short as 3-4 sentences. Make sure to:
Highlight the recipient’s part in your wedding (gift-giving, special service, etc.) and thank them for it
Acknowledge any extra effort they went to on or for your special day
Explain what their gift or special service meant to you and how you will use their gift, if they gave you one
Sign your card with both your name and your spouse’s name (you can have your signature pre-printed to make this part even easier!)
BONUS TIP: you can plan to write a certain amount of cards every time you sit down to chip away at the thank you notes so that you’re not overwhelmed by having to write all of them at the same time!
Finally, when it comes to distributing, you’ll want your guest list handy so you can mail the cards off easily. Keep the addresses of your guests next to their names on that list so you have an easier time addressing and mailing your cards to their recipients. Then you can take them and mail them all off!
Congratulations!! You’ve finished your thank you card adventure! No matter where you are in the process, we hope that this guide was helpful to you. Thank you, as always, for being our brides! 🤍
Cheers!
