Let’s Talk Maternity: 4 Tips to Shopping for Your Wedding Dress While Pregnant!!!

Below are our 4 tips to keep in mind when shopping for your wedding dress while you’re expecting!
Tip #1 - Let Your Stylist Know Ahead of Time
Your stylist is here to support you in finding the PERFECT dress, and the best way we can do that is by knowing ahead of time that you’re wanting to look at dresses that will be accommodating for maternity. If your stylist knows your plan ahead of time, they can figure out a plan to help you make the best choice for choosing a dress and choosing a path for alterations that will help your dress fit perfectly on the big day!

Tip #2 - Choose a Dress Silhouette
Our top priority is making sure you feel comfortable and confident in your wedding dress! And that means making sure you’re emphasizing exactly what YOU want to emphasize in your dress. You can wear a ballgown or A-line silhouette, and your baby bump will be more concealed–not entirely, but it won’t be as obvious as it would be in a tighter, more fitted dress. If you want your baby bump to be the star of the show, we are here for it, and fitted is where it’s at! All fabrics can be used in choosing a maternity dress, but especially for fitted dresses, picking a slightly stretchy, more forgiving fabric can make a world of difference in your comfort level in your dress. Picking any style of dress with a corseted, lace-up back will also be suuuuper helpful to you in saving you time and money in alterations, since the lace-up back can be tied tighter or looser depending on what feels best to you on the special day!!
Tip #3 - Keep Alterations in Mind
Any wedding dress will need some form of alterations to make it fit 100% perfectly, and a dress chosen to flatter a baby bump will be no exception! The dress you choose will definitely need alterations to make all the different aspects of your dress fit perfectly, since your measurements will be different while pregnant than they will when you’re not. If you are choosing a dress that isn’t maternity-specific, you will likely need to order a size or two up to accommodate the adorable baby bump and have the rest of the dress (bust, hips, etc.) altered in to fit perfectly!!

Tip #4 - Communicate with your Seamstress
Once you have chosen an alterations expert to help you make your dress exactly the way you want it, make sure you communicate exactly what you’re looking for in your alterations to your seamstress so no miscommunications happen along the way. Make sure you also talk to them about your timeline and when you are wanting your dress done–for instance, are you wanting to wait until the last minute to get your final alterations done because of your growing belly? This will be VERY important for your seamstress to know. Your vision of what your perfect dress will look like should be your seamstress’s top priority, so make sure you are clear and constantly communicating with your seamstress about what exactly you are looking for in your perfect dress!!
